I have a patient that came in for endometriosis and pelvic pain. They perform a laparoscopic hysterectomy. On the biopsy they found that the patient had an ovarian cyst. Shouldn't the ovarian cyst be coded with a not present upon admission? Please can someone help me understand POA's:confused:

Even though they weren't aware that she had an ovarian cyst, she did indeed have it the whole time, she didn't "acquire" an ovarian cyst while having surgery. So it would be present on admission. Generally speaking, things that are not present on admission, are usually hospital acquired.
