Good morning! I'm new in with a plastic surgery office where the surgeon mainly does trauma reconstruction cases. Which means most of his patients are pickedup in the ED and he has to do emergency surgery for them. The problem I'm finding is he has been billing out additional surgeries under the POS 23 even though they no longer are in the ED and have been admitted as an inpatient at the hospital. The doctor thinks because he started with them in the ED that he can continue to bill POS 23 for emergency care but I feel he can bill the first surgery that way but any additional follow up surgeries for debridement, skin grafts, etc., need to be bill with the POS 21.
