Does anyone know what modifier to use for an E/M service for a post-op problem? (Ex: hematoma/seroma) The surgery global guidelines indicate that only typical post op care follow up is global. This pt is also in hospital for treatment after original discharge from procedure about 2 months ago.

Would it be okay to use -58 even though this is an E/M service and not a procedure? Any advice is greatly appreciated! :D
 
Use mod -24 on your E&M if current care is outside the routine global care guidelines.

You can drop the -24 once you pass the 90 day global period unless a new procedure/surgery has been done that starts a new global period

If a new procedure/surgery is done, then you need to look at the modifies -58 -78 etc for these services
