Wiki Post Op?

Patient had major surgery (90 day post op) two weeks ago. Patient is re-admitted for bleeding from stoma site (post op site). MD administers local anesthesia and put 3 stiches on stoma to stop bleeding. This all happens at bedside. I am under the impression that this is considered post op b/c no return to a procedure room (58 or 78) and is at post op site so not unrelated (24). Anybody want to confirm if I am on the right track? I am second guessing myself for some reason.

Thanks,
Anna Barnes, CPC, CSGCS

I interpret the global period a little different. A bleeding stoma would not be considered a "normal post op complication" I would bill the suture repair of the stoma with a modifier -58 and use a complication dx code. This is just my opinion.
