i have a pt that had bypass surgery 10/17/1. she was admitted to the hospital again
12/1/11 and our office of three drs were called in as a consult for previous hx of gastric bypass with post-operative complications, currently with large open wound and small bowel fistula. since this is still in post op would this visit be considered with the global or can i charge for the daily visits with a modifier? she was in the hospital from 12-1-11-12-12-11.

thanks

The long and the short of it is, can you justify Mod -24 as unrelated to procedure that patient is in a global for? Different DX's doesn't necessarily justify mod -24 as it still could be related to the original procedure.

Good Luck!
