How do I bill when a patient has surgery at a different facility with a different surgeon, but are coming to our orthopedic surgeon for their postop follow up? I need some guidance on this so that I am making sure that it is being billed correctly. Any help is greatly appreciated.

For the dx you use the appropriate V code for aftercare, for the visit you bill the surgical code with the 55 modifier.

When you are saying surgical code are you referring to the code from the surgery or the E&M Office visit code with the 55 modifier?

You need the surgical code for the surgery that was performed, the 55 cannot be appended to an E&M
