Good morning All -

I have a quick question that I am hoping someone else has an answer for. :) For Measure #404 - Anesthesiology Smoking Abstinence one part of the measure states:
"Seen pre-operatively by anesthesiologist or proxy prior to the day of surgery"

Does anyone have a definition of what 'proxy' means in this instance?

I took that as the pre-op call from the nurse the day before, in our hospital they ask if they smoke
but the anesthetist needs to ask the question did they smoke before coming into their surgery
