I have an anesthesia client who has recently purchased an ultrasound. He would like to know if he can bill for an U/S if the patient ate and they perform U/S to abdomen to determine how much food there is and where (stomach, intestine, etc); thus allowing the surgical team to determine if they need to reschedule for a later date or can push a few hours on same day.
I've not had this question in my experience and would like to get some input from others please. I understand I'd use the appropriate U/S code w/o a modifier (as long as the client does a full report interpretation).

Has anyone billed for something like this and if so, what is your experience with reimbursement. The pros/cons, advice...etc

Any and all input is appreciated!
