One of our doctors is planning a C3-C7 dorsal decompression using a trapdoor laminoplasty approach. Anyone have any ideas of the CPTcodes that would be used for this? I was thinking 63051 but I am not sure and I have never heard of a trapdoor laminoplasty approach. :confused:
 
I believe he is probably just using different terminology to describe the laminoplasty code. The description of code 63051 includes decompression and instrumentation. In the actual description of the code it says, "A high-speed drill burr is used to create a gutter in the lamina on both an opening and closing side so the spinous processes may be opened like a door on a hinge," I believe this is probably what he means by trap door but I would ask him to make sure.
