What will be the best ICD-10 code for a pre-employment drugs screening? We are using Z02.1 as the dx and 80305 as the CPT. Is this correct?

Hi..

My first thought is that the pre-employment screening may not be covered by the patient's insurance as this type of drug screening is usually performed on a contract basis. Additionally, different types of employment have different regulations that oversee this screening. Example- Dept. of Transportation requires the laboratory who performs the testing to SAMSHA certified. Are you doing observed collection? Do you have a chain of custody in place? Is your provider an MRO? You may have all of these bases covered, but wanted to share as I am frequently faced with these issues when I am hired by a new client.

In regards to the coding, if it is appropriate, will depend on the device being used. What are you using to perform the screen?
