I am needing help. I have a patient never been seen before at my clinic. Here to establish care. Provider states he was diagnosed with Prediabetes (R73.03) 1 mo ago, not sure of A1C. Then later in the note states impaired fasting glycemia (R73.01). There were no notes in the chart from the previous provider nor were any labs done at my clinic on this DOS. I have been in touch with the provider about which Dx is correct. He states in the medical world both Dx are the same. When I try to research the difference in these codes I can not find anything that I can show him so he can see that in the coding world they are not. So in other words what is the difference when using these two codes? And does any one have any hard documentation that I can read up and and show to my provider so we can get on the same page?
