Hello list, physicians have asked if they can charge an office visit for a preoperative visit for EGD/Colonoscopies, for an airway check. After some research I know that they cannot charge for a preoperative visit if the procedure is for screening or routine purposes. I also found the V72.8X codes that would need to be billed as primary diagnosis, with reason for procedure as secondary and any comorbidities. I cannot find any coding guidelines stating that a preoperative visit cannot be charged. Is anyone billing for these and are you getting paid? Thanks, Robin
