Graduate 08/20/2018 how soon should I purchase my exam. student at Bryant stratton
or should I wait too see if my school will give my a Prep exam?

I recommend using more than one practice exam. I had 6 distinct practice exams at my disposal, and made sure I practice once with three different exams all in one setting. That way I was taking a 150 question practice run. That way you get a feel for what the actual exam will be like time wise (so you can plan for restroom breaks if needed, snack time etc...) and question answering time rhythm wise.

I found it vastly different taking a 1 hour 50 minute practice exam vs the 5 hour and 40 minute practice exam.

If you mean practice exam, you can purchase them from AAPC directly https://www.aapc.com/shop/practice-exams.aspx
I second the old advice above from @Mayzoo to take multiple practice exams timed like the real exam. Since the exam is now 100 questions over 4 hours, it would be 2 practice exams.
