I need assistance in the area of preventive coding; this is a stumbling block to me. I work for a family practice who perform both a preventive annual exam and a yearly gynecological exam, usually separately. It is my understanding that the preventive exam codes (non-Medicare) 99381-99397 are only paid once per year, but if you have one visit for the annual exam and one visit for the gynecological exam and they are both preventive visits, wouldn't both be coded and billed with preventive codes 99381-99397 with 2 different diagnosis (Z00.00 & Z01.419)?

Medicare Specific Codes

Medicare has specific codes for pap Q0091 and Pelvic and Breast exam - G0101. They are covered every 2 years unless there is High Risk factors.
