Patient came in for the HPV vaccine. We counseled the patient before on the need for the vaccine, the need for regular cervial cancer screenings, and ways to prevent HPV. I understand that this is all inclusive of the vaccine, but if we also counseled the patient about other STIDs and prevention of other STDs, could we also use code 99401 for preventive counseling since we talked about other things aside from the HPV vaccine?
 
Preventative Counseling

I worked for a well know company that provides birth control and reproductive health services and we would bill the preventative counseling code with the injections if there was education involved. There was no problem with payments.
