Can anyone explain this to me one more time.....the VATS diagnostic codes (32601 thur 32609) vs the therapeutic codes (32666-32667). I was under the impression that the therapeutic codes was to be used when the dr. specifically mentions that clean margins were obtained. I read through my Coding Edge from June again and that's how I interpreted it. Is there anything else that can explain this alittle clearer????:confused:

VATS codes

Being newer to this speciality, I will impart what knowledge I have. :) It seems to me the diagnostic VATS are used for exactly that. Diagnotic purposes. If a patient has a lung nodule or mass and a biopsy is taken but not resected, 32608 and not 32666. If the surgeon goes in intending to preform a just a diagnostic VATS but it then turns into a surgical VATS, billing the surgical VATS would be appropriate. I hope this helps some. :)
