Often we have 2 separate Hospitalists seeing one patient within a 24 hour period. Normally we don't charge for this 2nd visits because they are the same specialty and same medical group.
Can we bill a Prolonged Service code for the 2nd provider? Would this be billed under the first physician who saw the patient and would that provider have to countersign the note since it's billed under him?
I'd appreciate any feedback.
