Wiki Prolonged Services - new observiation codes

Hello!

Does anybody out there know if the prolonged services can be used with the new observiation codes (99224-99226)? When I look at the informtion on the CMS website, I don't see those codes listed as "companion codes". I believe this is a current manual that I'm looking at, but I still feel a bit unsure.

Logically I'd think that you can use them since you can do that with subsequent inpatient codes. But per CPT 2011 those new codes are not listed among the codes that should be used in conjunction with the prolonged services. Either it was an error when the manual was prepared or it was done on purpose, but I'm afraid if you use them the claim may be denied.
