Is there a law that states that the providers are required to select their fees. If so then how does it effect coding staff that audit notes and change the codes so that a claim is not submitted incorrectly and committing fraud??
Any help would be great.
thanks,

I believe you may be looking for whether a provider needs to select his own CPT codes, and no there is not a law. If there were a law, we all would be out of jobs! lol. I assume your provider is giving the coding staff a hard time? I would provide some education to the provider when a code is changed to a code which is supported by their documentation With some gentle and constructive feed back, the provider may begin to understand why codes get changed! Good luck. It can take some time to get the support as a coder from a provider.
