I work in a short term Psych facility. We are having some problems with the way we are coding when we have to send a patient out to the ER. We may send a patient to the ER for Chest Pain etc. and they return the next day. I understand that there is a code that can be added to the billing if a person comes from a long term facility and returns within 3 days. Can we as a short term facility use this code and what is the code? Should we be discharging the patient and readmitting them the next day if they are not on the census at midnight? Really need some help with this.
