Please help me. I am a newly certified coder and a psychiatrist friend of mine asked me a question because her patients were not being reimbursed for their claims. I have a guess at the answer but I want to verify that I am correct before I tell her what I think she should do. I think the correct answer is that if the session is primarily for psychotherapy and the E/M part is only a small fraction of the appointment that the appropriate length of time psychotherapy code should be listed first and the E/M code should be listed second with modifier -25 appended. Can someone please verify if I am correct?
