We just hired a new psychologist who has a existing client base from a near by clinic. She will be seeing many of her established patients at our facility, and these patients have never seen any sort of mental professional at our facility. In fact, we have never employed a phychologist before. So, when our new psychologist sees her established patients at our facility, are they considered new or established?

Please help...

Psychologists cannot bill E/M codes - so being a new vs established patient does not matter. See CPT code descriptions for 90801/90802, 90804, 90806,90846,90847, and testing codes 96101,96102,96103.

Since the psychologist switched to a new clinic, he could do a new 90801 on these patients to establish the chart.Otherwise just keep billing the 90804-90806, etc
