If a Physical Therapist (outside the hospital) treats a patient that was discharged the same day from the hospital after a surgery was performed (unsure if PT is surgery related or not), would this be allowed or does the patient need to be seen the day after they are discharged from the hospital. Would I append modifier 79?

I have never billed PT, but modifier 79 is Unrelated procedure or service by the same physician during the postoperative period. This would never be used by a physical therapist.
I don't see why there would be an issue with providing an office based physical therapy session later in the day of discharge.
