I am not new to coding. However, 6 months of dermatology coding can make you feel new every day. Can anyone help me understand how to best code and get reimbursed for 17110 with 17000? 11301 and 17000? Both combinations are with 99213. Some carriers will reimburse with XS applied to 17000 but others will not. I am confused. If I am reading my Plastics/Dermatology book 2022 correctly 17110 with 17000 is mutually exclusive. If I understand correctly, we cannot get reimbursed even with a modifier? I have been told that I need to apply the modifier to 17110 and not 17000. This is hard for me to understand since modifier 25 on 99213 is stating it is separate from the procedure below it. If these two code combinations are mutually exclusive, does this mean you cannot ever file a modifier with them? I welcome any help, advise or direction. Thank you. :)
