My provider performed a bronchoscopy to remove a foreign body from a patient. Provider spent 90 minutes trying to remove the foreign body without success. The patient has Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan.
Since the foreign body wasn't successfully removed, I don't feel that I can bill 31635 with modifier 53-it seems like I should bill 31622 with modifier 22 and ask for a higher payment and submit paper with notes, then be prepared to ask for a review. 31622 usually takes about 15 minutes. I would really like to see my provider get paid appropriately for her time since she spent 10 times the amount of time than for a 31622.
