Hello - I need help (of course) verifying the accuracy of a hospital billing. A woman pregnant with quadruplents was hospitalized when she went into pre mature labor. While hopsitalized she received many many ultrasounds. For each ultrasound billed (rev code 402) the hospital billed 4 units of service. Resulting in a $3600.00 charge per each ultrasound and almost $80,000.00 in ultrasound charges for the 2 week stay. My question is should they be billing 4units of service? I researched this and did not find a clear and conclusive answer. FYI -They also did this with the biophysical profiles, dopplers and almost everything else.

Some of the obstetrical ultrasound codes are billed per fetus. Some have add on codes for each additional fetus. Look closely at the codes and you will see. The brief 76815 and transvag 76817 are billed once per exam. Hope this helps!
