This might not be enough info.
But I held a coding session with the physicians I work with. And a question was posed.

What does a physician bill if he is mailed medical records from a patient and reivews it. Can he bill an E/M for this. Patient maybe present or in some cases may not.


Curious to know myself.

If it was a for psychiatric services yes, because there is a CPT code for it in the medicine section. If not, then no, there is not an administrative CPT code for reviewing records. You can not bill an E&M, when patient is not present because it will be impossible to meet to 3 out of 3 requirements for new patients or 2 out of 3 for established patients.
