Sometimes I feel that both R9439 and R931 should both be able to be coded. Does anyone have any information on this?

He has had a few weeks of exertional chest discomfort and he underwent an exercise stress echocardiogram 1/7/22. He exercised for over 9 minutes and developed chest discomfort. At peak stress he had an LAD wall motion abnormality.

Thank you!

I see why you are asking since abnormal stress test classifies to R94.39 while abnormal imaging classifies to R93.1. But in my opinion, I would only code both if they represent two distinct diagnoses in the record - I would not code them both for the same abnormality during the same test - I'd pick the one that most closely reports what's in the record. So in this case I would pick R94.39 since the documentation states an abnormality during a stress test.
