Does anyone know if it is common procedure practice for a radiologist to "always do a bilateral MRA lower extremities (73725.50) and abdominal MRA (74185) when an MRA of a lower extremity ONLY is ordered?
Example: A physician specifically orders an MRA (73725) of the RIGHT LOWER EXTREMITY (actually Right Great Toe) - the radiologist decides that he wants Bilateral lower extremitites MRA AND abdominal MRA (74185) done. What gives them the right to change a physician order? (if anything)
any thoughts on this issue?:confused:

our drs have to get a request from the ref phys and usually have them fax over a new order. a lot of our pt's have pre-certs and we need to have that documented. we can only do what is ordered or we take the loss if it would not get paid.
