RE: Hemovac Drain Replacement
A provider implants a Hemovac drain (catheter) after performing removal of anterior hardware related to a previous fusion. Three days later (now in a 90 day postop period from the
hardware removal procedure), he replaces the Hemovac drain going through the previous incision in the anterior neck where the hardware removal was performed. I cannot find
a CPT code for the Hemovac drain replacement. Is there a code and can the drain replacement be billed? I think that the replacement would be included in the global period of the anterior
hardware removal procedure when the drain was initially placed and is not billable as a separate service.
