Are the CMS/Medicare 2019 proposed E/M/Coding/Documentation Guidelines the same for Medicare participating, non-participating and/or MC replacement plan providers? I was under the impression these changes and guidelines only apply to providers who are traditional Medicare participating providers. Any insight would be greatly appreciated!! Thank you for your help!!

Good morning!

I have done some extensive research on this topic, and the Proposed changes seem to only apply to Original Medicare and MACs. Commercial payers may jump on the band wagon, however I strongly doubt everyone will follow suit right away. Perhaps the bigger payers (UHC, BCBS, Aetna, etc.) might do so before the regional/local payers, but time will really tell.

Oh and I created a whole thread on this topic :-)
