HI,

WE HAVE 5 DOCS THAT ARE IN OUR PRACTICE......ONE OF OUR ORTHO. SURGEONS HAVE REFERRED ONE OF HIS PATIENTS TO OUR PAIN MANAGEMENT DR., WILL THIS COUNT AS NEW PT. FOR THE PAIN MANAGEMENT DOC?

TIA!

The answer to this question would depend on what specialty/sub-specialty the provider's NPI number is linked to and how they are enrolled with payers. If they are both recognized as orthopedic surgeons, then the patient would be established to the pain management provider. If, however, the pain management provider is enrolled as a different specialty/sub-specialty, then the patient would be considered new to the pain management provider. Hope this makes sense.
