Can you bill 20670 for superficial removal of implant for the removal of wire pin etc after a hammertoe procedure 28285? I work for 2 podiatrist and one says yes and one says no.

are they removing the pin in the office? I always bill for my pin removals after repairs. but mine are always done in the OR, if they are removing it in an office setting then it would be inclusive to the initial procedure

They are removing it in the office. I researched this on codingline.com and some say you can and some say you can not. I do not think a place of service or the usage of anethesia should have any bearing on weather you can or can not bill for 20670. I think the question is. is it included in the original surgery or not?

The place of service does matter. Steffie is correct, if the pin/wire removal is done in the OR it is billable, if done in the office it is considered a part of the global surgery package.
