Provider performed a transmetatarsal amputation on 08/15/2025, leaving the wound open and packing with betadine soaked gauze and non-biodegradable beads. On 08/19/2025, patient was returned to the surgical suite where the packing and non-biodegradable beads were removed and provider manually prepared and placed biodegradable antibiotic beads and then closed the surgical site.
My question is, what procedure (CPT) codes to use for the removal and insertion of the beads. Our surgery coder used 11982 and 20700, but these are bumping up against an NCCI edit stating Mutually exclusive procedures.
