I need some advice regarding consultations. Our Palliative Care group is frequently asked to consult during hospital stays. Usually the reason is pain management or palliative care. They don't follow up the patient after discharge. Many of the patients have chronic conditions and are often admitted weeks or months later and our providers are asked to consult again.

Can they bill for a new consult at that time?

Thanks!

As long as they're being requested to see the patient (and the documentation supports it), your providers can charge for another consultation. But only one consultation per admission is allowed.
