I have a set of physicians who some, not all, are allowing their staff to record the HPI portion of the exam. While I know this is incorrect, that the billing provider MUST document this, they insist that this is the way they would like to do this. I have found sources on the CMS website stating this and provided this to the proper person to inform the physicians of this, but they still want to do it this way. What kind of repercussions will this have if they are ever audited?
