My family practitioner spent 45 minutes on the phone with an agency reporting the neglect and possible abuse of his elderly patient.

Can I bill Medicare for this call and if so what CPT/HCPC would I use? He's not seen her in months, except briefly in the hospital becuase he happened to see her name in the computer. We did not bill for the chat he had with her in the hospital.

Only bill face-to-face

You can only bill the face-to-face services provided ... so DO bill for the "chat he had in the hospital" but NO bill for calling social services.

Hope that helps. And GOOD for him for reporting the potential abuse!
