Hello everyone,

I'm seeking clarity as to, can a resident write orders without a teaching physician sign-off on the orders?

Residents are licensed physicians

Residents are licensed physicians doing post-graduate training in a specialty. They are fully capable of signing orders on their own. However your teaching hospital or your state, may have specific guidelines in place restricting this.

You cannot BILL any of their work, however, without appropriate teaching physician attestation/documentation.

Hope that helps.
