Hello all,
First time poster. I am new to neurosurgery and had a question regarding a return to the OR following a craniotomy. Patient was admitted to the hospital and underwent craniotomy to evacuate a hematoma, 61322. A week later and still inpatient, the wound became infected and was taken back to the operating room. The skull was opened and drained of purulent material, and thoroughly irrigated before being reclosed with a drain. Would this this be included in the original 61322 since it is a complication of the original surgery and still in the global period? Or is there an appropriate CPT code that I can append modifier 78 to? Any help here is greatly appreciated!
