My doctor did a second stage of breast reconstruction after breast cancer with the following procedures:
Right Breast
1. Removal of tissue expander
2. Lateral Capsulorrhaphy with a lateral strip of capsule removed.
3. Medial Dog-ear revision
4. Breast reconstruction with Mentor 700cc smooth round implant

Left Breast
1. Removal of tissue expander
2. Lateral Capsulorrhaphy with a lateral strip of capsule removed.
3. Lateral Dog-ear revision.
4. Breast reconstruction with Mentor 700cc smooth round implant

My doctor wants to know if he can bill for the dog ear revision? I also dont see a code for capsulorrhapy only capsulotomy and capsulectomy. kati

If the surgeon accessed the tissue expanders via the original incision site, I would only code 11970 (x2) for this scenario.

Capsulorrhapy is included in the 19380 (revision reconstructed breast) per CPT corner.
