We have a physician who did a right heart cath for evaluation of fluid status. I'm showing volume depletion is not a payable code for this procedure. The patient does have ASHD but that wasn't the primary reason for doing this procedure. On the other hand, if the patient didn't have ASHD, the volume depletion wouldn't have been as much of a concern and they probably wouldn't have done it. Am I wrong to go ahead and use the ASHD as the primary diagnosis and the volume depletion as the secondary diagnosis? Thanks in advance for your assistance. :)
