For MIPS purposes, must BMI be included as diagnosis with well visits? I understand abnormal for adult must, what about peds, routine and abnormal.

thanks in advance.

Routine BMI without an associated diagnosis....

Hi, I see nobody has chimed in on this issue. I have the same question. I know that it is not correct coding per ICD-10-CM to code a BMI without an associated diagnosis to support. It is not meant to be used as a stand alone code as it would be in the case of a normal BMI. I have a lot of providers documenting a normal BMI on pediatric patients. It doesn't seem correct to me based on the guidelines but I'd like to know if there is another reason for reporting this data, i.e. HEDIS or for HCC coding?
Hoping to get some attention to this post. Thanks!!

Adding the BMI diagnosis to well child visits is appropriate because the provider is monitoring their growth. At age 9, if their BMI is in a certain range, they order a lipid panel. If a child was born premature, following their growth lines is important. If my provider can justify the medical necessity of it, then it passes.
