We have a provider who has 2 specialties. He saw a patient as a consult today in Rheumatology and the provider wants to refer this patient for a consult to Allergy which is his other specialty. How should the 2nd consult be reported?

First, who is referring to Allergy, the provider who referred the patient to your doctor or your doctor? If he is "referring" the patient to himself which is the feeling I'm getting from your post, the visit should be coded as an established patient.
