Wiki Scanning

We have a scanner at our facility and when we receive the reports back from the outside physicians that we refer our patients to it would normally go to the Provider who requested the referral and he/she would sign it and then the scanner would scan it in the patients record.

Now we are told the Provider does not have to sign it and it can go straight to scanning. Alot of us disagree with this new policy because it sets us up for malpractice.

Is there any guidance from Joint Commission or anyone else regarding this or can a facility make up their own Policies regarding scanning?

Thank you!
Heather
