Can an OBGYN perform surgery on a male patient such as placing a Implantable port a Cath for chemotherapy treatment. What are the standards for OBGYN' to treat male patients. Where can I find some solid evidence regarding these two matters?
Thankd

I believe an OBGYN may perform the above procedure on a male patient. My research showed that in September 2013, ABOG came out with a very strict ruling about OBGYNs not being permitted to treat male patients except under very specific circumstances. Then in December 2013, ABOG issued another advisement allowing to treat men in additional circumstances. Both of those advisements would prohibit your situation to remain in good standing with ABOG. In January 2014, ABOG stated only that OBGYNs must devote a majority of their care to obstetrics & gynecology. Below are some links to articles. I could not find anything on the official ABOG website, and would strongly recommend contacting them to confirm the current policy.

Hi
Most MD, DO, PA are educated doctors which can perform most routine medical process like adding a cath to a port. This doc must of have training in this before or is knowledge in how to change a cath. I do know some clinical procedures docs must have special training/get certified for more difficult clinical procedures; such as colonoscopies, heart CABG surgery, spine vertebroplasty, Etc.

I hope this info helps you.
