I have a question regarding the screening breast tomosynthesis code 77063. Unlike the diagnostic tomo codes, this code only specifies “bilateral”. If a screening mammography with screening breast tomo was done on a patient with a unilateral mastectomy, is it appropriate to bill the 77063 with a -52 modifier (as we do for a unilateral screening mammography)? Thank you.
 
I had the exact same issue today. I checked other publications, and nothing was mentioned regarding unilateral screening tomo - Since the code states its for bilateral services, I added the modifier 52 to it as well.
