I Work In An Asc. A Doctor Schedules A Colonoscopy And On The Orders It Has A Symptom (abd Pain). Then When The Doctor Dictates The Procedure He Has Screening Colonoscopy As Pre Dx How Would You Code This? Would You Use The G Code For Screening Or Would You Use 45378? Thank You For Any Help You Can Give Me On This.

I would look at the office note prior to the proc and see what the pt presented with and what the doctor put in under Plan.

If the pt presented with symptoms originally and was not sent for a screening, I would use the 45378.

However, if the pt was sent to your doctor for a screening but the doctor pulled the abd pain complaint from the pt I would go with the G code.

As long as documentation supports it, you could go with either.
