I have not seen this addressed and so would like to know if a screening lab (not diagnostic) ordered during an E&M can be counted toward the level of service? For instance, a family practice doctor orders a screening pap smear during an office visit for a follow up for unrelated chronic conditions.

To clarify the situation: a family practice provider is seeing a patient for a chronic condition and orders a screening test for the patient to be done at the preventative visit scheduled later. Would we count the test for the current visit as 1 for test ordered?
