Have a pt that came into our office for a second opinion consult which dx is ESRD and ins is Medicare. Can someone please give any time of advice in what would be the proper way to code this visit.

The visit has to be medically necessary, so is the second opinion regarding treatment options for the ESRD or was it regarding the diagnosis itself? Was the second opinion patient initiated? How to code the visit really depends on the circumstances surrounding the reason for the encounter.
