Hi

I have a 3yr old pt who has a sensitivity to noise. Its not hearing related. The dr put in the note she thinks it is more fear related. How do I code this?

Thanks

Hyperacusis

388.42 Hyperacusis is used for exceptional acute sense of hearing. I would query the physician to determine if s/he agrees with this diagnosis and is willing to document such in the medical record before assigning this code. If the physician documents this as a fear, code 313.0 (anxiety and fearfulness of childhood and adolescence) might work.
